POSITION SUMMARY
We are seeking a bilingual buyer to manage supplier relationships, negotiate pricing, and source materials efficiently. The ideal candidate will have strong communication skills in both English and French, experience in procurement, and the ability to analyze market trends. This role requires an outgoing personality that can effectively collaborate with internal teams and external suppliers to meet cost, quality, and delivery targets.
KEY RESPONSIBILITIES
- Identify, source and negotiate construction material accessories, MRO supplies and lumber for up to 6 manufacturing facilities across Canada
- Analyze pricing, lead times, and terms to make informed purchasing decisions and agreements
- Build and maintain strong relationships with key suppliers. Monitor supplier performance, negotiate contracts, and resolve issues promptly.
- Proactively analyzes market and commodity trends including pricing, new products, and potential suppliers in key markets such as PVC, Polycarbonates, HDPE, soft wood lumber, wire rod, freight and labour rates) to ensure Vicwest is receiving competitive pricing
- Negotiate favorable pricing and terms to ensure cost efficiency with existing or potential suppliers
- Maintains Purchase Information Records (PIR) and coordinates standard cost updates with Finance Teams
- Prepares and reviews supplier performance results such as OTIF (on time, in full), quality, and pricing with suppliers.
- Executes various company policies to ensure suppliers are compliant
- Gathers, maintains and organizes key documents and information for compliance such as signed service agreements, CUSMA documents, DUNS information, etc.
- Working closely with other departments such as finance, operations, and logistics to ensure procurement aligns with broader company goals.
- Supports the product development or R&D teams in sourcing materials needed for new products.
- Participates in physical inventory counts
- Participates in other continuous improvement or cross functional projects as assigned
QUALIFICATIONS
- Bachelor's degree in Business, Supply Chain Management, Procurement or related field (preferred).
- 3-5 years proven experience in procurement/sourcing experience, preferably in the construction industry
- Bilingual/Fluent in English and French (reading, writing and speaking)
- Strong relationship building skills, negotiation skills and communication skills.
- Proficient in software preferably SAP, PowerBi, Excel and Word.
- Excellent analytical and problem-solving abilities.
- Knowledge of supply chain management principles.
- Detail-oriented and well-organized
- Outgoing personality with the ability to work independently and as part of a broader team.
